The advantage is that the measurement signal is not affected by fiber bending loss, link loss, light source fluctuation and the influence of factors such as the aging of the detector, hence avoid the problem of ambiguity in the phase measurement of the interferometric fiber optic sensor, multiple fiber Bragg gratings are connected in series on a single fiber, the sensors are embedded (or mounted) to the structure, several parameters can be monitored obtained at the same time out of each measurement target, hence realized a quasi-distributed sensing system.
It can be said that the fiber grating sensor is the most ideal sensitive components right now. Some types of FBG packaged sensors have been commercialized and are widely used in geodynamics, spacecraft and ship, civil engineering structures, power industry, medical and chemical sensing, and telecommunication engineering.
